Amanda Rhodes

LCSW

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I strive to work collaboratively with clients so they feel empowered in their story. My primary goal, with a client, is to create a relationship built on trust as this is paramount to the therapeutic process. I believe by providing a safe, comfortable space for clients to express and explore, healing can take place. I also recognize the importance of understanding all areas of a client’s life including upbringing, attachment style, life stressors, and symptomatology.

My specialties include: children, pre-teen, and adolescents as well as their caregivers.

I utilize a mixture of non-directive and directive play therapy with younger children that is tailored for their treatment needs and developmental capacity. For older children and adolescents, I incorporate aspects of both cognitive and dialectical behavior therapy. With all clients I include sand-tray and expressive arts. I provide caregivers effective parenting skills that can enhance the child/parent relationship as well as improve healthy boundary setting, and communication in the home.

My therapeutic style stems from my personality: playful, genuine, warm, curious, and energetic and I am highly invested in ensuring your child or teen feels this is a fit for him or her.

Currently, I am in training to become a Registered Play Therapist, under the mentorship of Jennifer Cain, LPC-S, RPT-S, RST.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, attending church related activities, and exercising. I am a coffee lover as well and plan on investing in an espresso machine soon!
